In March 2023, the legislation of the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying concerning verification for EV charging equipment to measure electrical energy was published in the official newsletter. This establishes the verification requirements for billing the energy at charging equipment for electric vehicles.
This regulation will become obligatory by the beginning of 2027.
We possess the competence and traceable measurement equipment required to perform verifications for AC and DC charging installations. These are typically carried out on-site at the installation location and ensure proper functioning and billing.
The verification procedure includes test of metrological suitability and test of charging session data to the billing system

Charge equipement eligible for verification are marked either with an Austrian approval mark or an MID conformity marking. Devices without approval or recognition pursuant to §49 MEG are not eligible for verification. The verification period for charging equipment is 10 years, analogous to electronic power meters.
For verification test at high very high DC charging capacities, it is necessary that the costumer provides an electric vehicle with sufficient charging power.
Current technical developments, such as bidirectional charging and megawatt charging, are continuously monitored with regard to their implications under verification law.
